| metadata.dc.description.resumo: | O objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar as práticas missionárias batistas no Norte Goiano e no atual estado do Tocantins, no âmbito do projeto da Junta de Missões Nacionais (JMN) da Convenção Batista Brasileira (CBB). Tais práticas foram veiculadas no Jornal Batista (OJB) e foram lidas como representatividade da mulher no avanço missionário batista da região. Interessa-nos, primordialmente, analisar o impacto da atuação dessas mulheres na expansão do protestantismo histórico na região. A hipótese central elaborada para a condução da pesquisa apontava que a expansão batista na região não foi obra exclusiva de homens que comandavam a igreja, foi também alcançada a partir de forte participação de mulheres em diversas atividades missionárias. Nesse sentido, a pesquisa buscou mapear suas trajetórias e estratégias de atuação; identificar o perfil dessas mulheres e mapear as localidades onde atuaram no Norte Goiano, o que permitiu visibilizar suas ações. Além disso, a pesquisa procurou dar relevo aos trabalhos das mulheres batistas nas instituições fundadas através da iniciativa feminina nas áreas da saúde, educação e assistência social. Nossa intenção foi demonstrar como essas ações foram fundamentais para a organização social e estabelecimento batista da região. Para sustentar nossas abordagens, o trabalho ancora-se em considerações acerca de conceitos de História Cultural e Representações, de Roger Chartier (1990; 2002), em noções de Discurso Religioso, de Eni Orlandi (2009), e nas reflexões sobre o poder feminino no protestantismo, de Lídice Meyer (2025). Adicionalmente, valemo-nos das contribuições de Tânia Regina de Luca (2008) sobre o uso de jornais na escrita histórica, pois elas fornecem o suporte metodológico para o trato com nossa principal fonte de pesquisa. Tais referenciais, somados aos estudos de gênero, tornam viável uma interpretação crítica do objeto. A pesquisa pretende contribuir para a historiografia do protestantismo batista brasileiro e para a história das mulheres, propondo uma análise fundamentada nos pressupostos da História Cultural. Almeja-se, assim, fomentar o debate acadêmico sobre a presença da mulher no protestantismo e estimular novas investigações que privilegiem a interseção entre religiosidade, gênero e cultura. |
| Abstract: | The objective of this research is to analyze baptist missionary practices in Northern Goiás and the current state of Tocantins within the scope of the Home Mission Board (Junta de Missões Nacionais - JMN) project of the Brazilian Baptist Convention (Convenção Batista Brasileira - CBB). These practices were disseminated in the newspaper O Jornal Batista (OJB) and interpreted as representations of women’s roles in the Baptist missionary advancement of the region. Primarily, the study examines the impact of these women’s actions on the expansion of historical Protestantism in the area. The central hypothesis suggests that Baptist expansion in the region was not exclusively the work of the men who led the church, but was also achieved through the significant participation of women in various missionary activities. In this sense, the research sought to map their trajectories and action strategies, identify their profiles, and locate the areas where they served in Northern Goiás, thereby making their contributions visible. Furthermore, the study highlights the work of Baptist women in institutions founded through female initiatives in the fields of healthcare, education, and social assistance. Our intent was to demonstrate how these actions were fundamental to the social organization and the establishment of the Baptist denomination in the region. To support these approaches, the work is anchored in concepts of Cultural History and Representations by Roger Chartier (1990; 2002), notions of Religious Discourse by Eni Orlandi (2009), and reflections on female power in Protestantism by Lídice Meyer (2025). Additionally, we draw upon the contributions of Tânia Regina de Luca (2008) regarding the use of newspapers in historical writing, providing the methodological support for handling the primary source. These frameworks, combined with gender studies, enable a critical interpretation of the object. This research intends to contribute to the historiography of Brazilian Baptist Protestantism and women's history, proposing an analysis grounded in the premises of Cultural History. Ultimately, it aims to foster academic debate on the presence of women in Protestantism and stimulate new investigations that prioritize the intersection of religiosity, gender, and culture. |
