Educação Matemática e a inflação: Reflexões Construídas por uma futura professora de Matemática de Arraias-To

Abstract

This study presents the results of research on inflation calculated by the Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA) in Brazil for the period from 2011 to 2021. It highlights the importance of understanding inflation for the Brazilian population, especially the working class. In this context, the objective of the research was to understand what inflation is, in order to critically and reflectively assess its effects on daily life. The theoretical review developed for this research aims to contextualize critical mathematical education and inflation. It is characterized as a qualitative study, carried out through bibliographic research in books, articles, specialized websites, dissertations, and journals. The results of the inflation survey, calculated by the IPCA and based on data indexed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), indicate a lack of control over inflation accumulated in the last ten years. Upon analyzing the data, it is evident that inflation varied significantly, with periods when it was within the target set by the National Monetary Council (CMN), other times when it was well below the target, and yet other times when it significantly exceeded the forecasted limits. It is concluded that discussing and understanding the inflationary process is of fundamental importance, as this understanding will enable individuals to recognize the actions that should be taken to comprehend the impact of inflation's consequences in their lives.
