Aspectos sócio-culturais e econômicos sobre o modo de produção da comunidade afrodescendente São Joaquim no município de Porto Alegre, TO

Abstract

This qualitative research, anchored in Critical Geography, aimed to analyze the sociocultural and economic aspects of the mode of production of the Afro-descendant community of São Joaquim, in Porto Alegre, TO. For this, field research was carried out using participant observation techniques, interviews and photographic records, in addition to a literature review on topics such as slavery, the formation of quilombos (runaway slave communities), and African cultural manifestations. The main focuses of analysis were land ownership, African- origin festivities, the enslaved condition of ancestors, cultural manifestations, and the process of constructing ethnic identity, seeking to understand the socio-spatial dynamics, resistance strategies, and the (re)affirmation of quilombola (runaway slave community) identity. The research is justified by the need to understand how the development of cultural manifestations and the non-capitalist mode of production of the community occurred. In view of the results obtained in the research, it was possible to evaluate the main aspects related to the culture and economy of the São Joaquim community, as well as to understand the social relations of the community that present signs of Afrodescendant ancestry within the community.
