Abstract

In this research, we will discuss the following dissertation titled "The Influences of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) on the Festival of the Holy Spirit in Arraias, TO". This study aims to analyze the influences of the Second Vatican Council's conferences on the Festival of the Holy Spirit in Arraias, Tocantins, during the period when Bishop Dom Alano Marie Du Noday was overseeing the Diocese of Porto Nacional. The research involved conducting a literature review through the analysis and study of articles and academic publications related to the themes of the Holy Spirit festival, popular religiosity, and popular culture. To achieve this, a qualitative research methodology was employed, emphasizing bibliographic research, documentary research, photographic representation, and participant observation. This approach is essential for grounding and developing this study, with a focus on the following authors: Appolinário (2004), Delgado (2010), Minayo (1994), Triviños (1987), and Vergara (2000). The analysis also draws on the concept of popular culture in History and Anthropology. From this perspective, some theories concerning popular religiosity are systematized. It is concluded that the Second Vatican Council contributed to popularizing the Catholic Church and its rites, as exemplified by the festival in question. This research can contribute to studies in the History of Religions and Religiosity, as well as to studies on regional culture and the collective memory of the Arraias community in Tocantins.
