Território, identidade e lutas: a demarcação da terra indígena Apinayé na região do Bico do Papagaio/TO

Abstract

This research aims to explore the history of struggles of the Apinajé people both in the process of territorial demarcation and in its current reconfigurations. Considering that even indigenous lands constitute a fundamental issue for the perpetuation of knowledge and ethnic cultural ways, as they are relationships centered on the body-territory (BANIWA; KAYAGNAG, et,al, 2023), their integrity and management are still threatened on a daily basis. To fulfill this purpose, I began the research with the bibliographic review method through analyzes of historical documents, legislation, jurisprudence, academic articles and reports from indigenous and non-governmental organizations. This research is justified because it is an urgent issue, regarding the rights of indigenous peoples, which is the fight for territory, whether in the form of demarcation or in the form of maintaining its post-demarcation integrity. This study/research aims to contribute and explore the dynamics involved in land demarcation, and the challenges faced by indigenous communities in the face of resistance strategies developed over the centuries and mainly point to the dynamics and disputes subsequent to demarcation. May the results of this study enrich the academic and political debate on the rights of indigenous populations, offering reflections on the struggle and resistance of these communities and the preservation of the cultural and territorial identity of indigenous communities in a global context of changes and challenges. ation.
